TSC (Technical Screening Criteria)

TSC (Technical Screening Criteria): The Basis for Sustainability Evaluation

The TSC (Technical Screening Criteria) refers to the set of rules and metrics defined within the framework of the EU Taxonomy, which helps assess whether an economic activity can be considered environmentally sustainable. The goal of the TSC is to clearly define sustainable economic activities, thereby supporting green investments and sustainable development.

Function and Application of the TSC

The TSC is based on the six fundamental environmental objectives of the EU Taxonomy, which include the mitigation of climate change, the sustainable use of water and marine resources, the protection of biodiversity, and the transition to a circular economy. Thanks to the TSC, companies and investors will be able to identify activities that contribute to achieving environmental goals.

The EU Taxonomy requires that economic activities carried out with consideration for sustainability must meet the TSC criteria to be classified as environmentally sustainable. For example, a project using renewable energy sources can only be considered sustainable if it meets the TSC requirements, ensuring it does not cause significant environmental harm in other areas.

The Importance of the TSC for Sustainability

The role of the TSC is extremely important in promoting sustainable economic activities. Transparent and scientifically-based criteria enable investors and companies to clearly identify sustainable projects and avoid the false appearance of sustainability (greenwashing). By applying the TSC, companies and investors can be confident that their activities truly contribute to sustainability goals and that financial resources are being directed toward green investments.

The TSC also assists regulators and policymakers in developing sustainability policies, enabling support for the most beneficial and environmentally-friendly projects for society. Through the EU Taxonomy and the TSC, sustainability initiatives can be strengthened, contributing to the global fight against climate change and promoting sustainable development.
